How to paint tiles in your kitchen or bathroom?

How to paint tiles in your kitchen or bathroom?

Painting tiles is not a big deal, you just have to do the whole process properly so that the end result is spectacular and you can consider yourself a master painter 😉

Prepare the surface well before you start painting:

– First, we must clean and degrease the entire surface, all the tiles and joints. To carry out the cleaning work, you should use soap and water, never use detergents with silicone bases or waxes when cleaning the surface.

You can use a cellulose-based thinner to degrease. You should also remove all traces of limescale and silicone from the tiles using a scraper with a sharp blade and a stainless steel scouring pad.

– Tiles can be cleaned with any type of sponge or cloth, they should be cleaned by scrubbing vigorously, you should use a brush for the most difficult parts such as the joints. This is where dirt, grease and mold usually adhere the most.

– Finally, dry the surface well with a clean cloth and you’re ready to paint.

Apply the product:

To paint the tiles, you should first apply a specific tile primer, such as our Tile Primer, before painting with the paint you want and the color you want.

If you don’t, the paint is unlikely to stick to the tiles, resulting in a poor final job.

We recommend using a short-haired roller or brush for application.

Apply a good coat of Tile Primer, which you can use a dilution of 15% water in this coat, and which will have an approximate yield of about 11 m² per liter per coat.

Once the primer has dried well, about 12 to 24 hours, we move on to painting.

– Here you should opt for a washable water-based enamel paint such as Sollacryl. Before you start painting, you need to decide what kind of finish you want. Gloss, satin or matt. And also the color you like, white, a light color, or a strong color, you can choose the color you want using a specific or universal color catalog.

A good trick to avoid options we don’t like when painting our kitchen or bathroom is to do a test first. On just one tile, or a small area that is somewhat hidden, and so that if we don’t want to, we can easily solve the problem, paint with two or three colors and tones that we like, and two or three types of gloss. In Sollac Paints physical stores we offer paint test samples.

– When applying Sollacryl water-based enamel, use a short-haired roller or brush to apply a first coat diluted with 10% water. Wait about 6 hours for it to dry and then apply another coat. If necessary, apply a third coat, always respecting the 6-hour drying time. Each coat will yield approximately 15 m² per liter. In this way we will have a well-applied and excellent-looking end result.

Above all, it is important to carry out all these steps so that the work goes smoothly and the results are achieved
